What Sets the Price on Custom Embroidered Hats
There is no flat rate for hat embroidery, and anyone quoting you one before seeing your logo is guessing. Four things move the number.
Stitch count
This is the big one. Embroidery is priced by how many stitches it takes to fill your design, not by how large it looks on the hat. A clean left-front logo usually runs somewhere around 4,000 to 7,000 stitches. Add small text, fine detail or a full crest and it can pass 12,000. Same hat, very different price.
Cap style
A basic six-panel twill cap and a premium performance or rope hat are different animals before a single stitch goes in. The blank is often the larger half of the cost on lower stitch-count jobs.
Quantity
Digitizing is a one-time setup that stays flat no matter how many hats you order, so the cost per hat drops as the run gets bigger. Our minimum is a 12 piece minimum. Price breaks continue as you scale into bulk embroidered hats.
Locations and effects
Front only is standard. Side hits, back arcs, under-brim embroidery and 3D puff each add stitches and handling time.

Flat Stitch, 3D Puff or a Patch
- Flat embroidery. The standard. Thread sits flush to the cap. Best for detailed logos, small text and anything with fine lines.
- 3D puff embroidery. Foam under the thread lifts the design off the cap for a raised, bold look. Works beautifully on thick block letters and simple shapes. It does not handle fine detail or small text well.
- Patches. Woven, embroidered or leather patches applied to the hat. Often the better choice for detailed artwork, gradients or multi-colour logos that would be expensive to stitch directly. See our custom patches.
Where the Logo Goes
Front centre and left front are the most common placements. Beyond that you can add a side hit above either ear, a back arc across the closure, or under the brim. Each additional location is priced separately because each one is a separate run through the machine.
How Hat Embroidery Works
- Send your artwork. Vector is ideal, but we work with what you have and will tell you honestly if it needs cleanup.
- We digitize in-house. Your logo gets converted into a stitch file tuned for the specific cap. We keep that file on record so reorders skip this step.
- Approve the proof. You see exactly what you are getting before we run production.
- We stitch and ship. Most orders leave in 5 to 7 business days from approved artwork. Rush jobs are possible, and the sooner we know the more we can do.

Questions We Get Every Week About Custom Embroidered Hats
How much do custom embroidered hats cost?
It depends on stitch count, the cap you choose, how many you order and how many locations you decorate. A simple left-front logo on a standard twill cap at 48 pieces sits at the affordable end. A detailed multi-colour crest on a premium performance cap sits well above it. Send your logo and we will price it properly rather than guess.
What is the minimum order for embroidered hats?
Twelve pieces. We do not do one-offs or sample runs of two or three, because the digitizing setup does not make sense at that volume.
Do you charge to digitize my logo?
We digitize in-house and keep your stitch file on record, so reorders do not pay setup again. Digitizing is quoted with your order and depends on the complexity of the artwork.
Can you do 3D puff embroidery on caps?
Yes. It works best on bold block letters and simple shapes. If your logo has small text or fine detail we will tell you upfront that flat stitch or a patch will look better.
How long does hat embroidery take?
Most hat orders ship within 5 to 7 business days from approved artwork. Call us if you are working to an event date and we will tell you honestly whether it is doable.
Will small text work on a hat?
Sometimes. Caps are a curved, structured surface and there is a limit to how fine embroidery can go before it turns into a blur. Anything under roughly a quarter inch tall gets risky. If your logo depends on small text, a woven patch will hold the detail far better.
Can you embroider hats I already own?
In most cases yes, though it depends on the construction of the cap and whether it can be hooped safely. Send us photos and we will tell you before you ship anything.
